SYNCHRONICITY
Age is such an incredible teacher. When I think back to my youth, studying over every year that has been swept into my past, I can make out the faintest pattern of growth. I can remember when I was young and brand new into farming, how much energy emanated out of my body in every direction. What I didn’t have in wisdom, I made up with in stamina, determination, and ego. I was so thirsty for life and righteousness and felt divinely protected by the great energetic forcefield of youth.
As I head towards middle age now, I can see that chunks of that forcefield aren’t there anymore. From this vantage point, I sense that the losses have been as instructive as the wins and the mistakes have been as innately a part of the journey as the intentional choices guided by my heart. The whole of my life, from beginning to end, has been an orchestration of beauty intelligently designed to coax me to learn and coax me to love.
My time in nature has taught me a lot about communicating with the universe. I have begun to learn some of the languages of the land, of abundance, and balance. I’ve become more attuned to the subtle ways all of creation conspires to tell me secrets, lead me down my most potent path, introduce me to essential people, and provide me with the most conducive experiences for personal growth. Through endless coincidences, repeating themes, and episodes of high strangeness, I have come to believe that we are all important, we are all loved, and that one of our most crucial purposes here on this Earth is to revel in its majesty.
Every year we let our pastures grow from summer through to late fall before a mower is brought over the landscape. It is incredible to be standing in the waist high grass in high summer, feeling the immense connectivity of the environment. All of these different beings are busily living within this dense haven and if you can let your awareness expand and span the entire field, you can sense a robust unity, strengthened by diversity and symbiosis. Now that science has finally begun to reveal that the root of our reality is not matter (materialism) as we had thought, but actually consciousness, we can collectively begin to shift our understanding and embody our true potential as interconnected beings.
There is a moment in August when the early morning light in the overgrown pastures reveals multitudes of newly settled orb weaver spiders and their glistening webs for as far as the eye can see. This added layer of intelligence over the fields is astonishing to behold. The sensitivity of these beings to the stimuli of their environment has them operating like the neurons of the landscape. The amount of information collected by each weaver a snapshot of the great story of the unfolding of a summer season. Breathing in this truth alongside the sweet summer air, I try my best to live that way—to take the beautiful details of each season caught in my web and offer this lived experience up as a gift to creation.
As my dance with the mystery grows in years, I find less to be gained from being right, or being liked, or proving myself to those not convinced by the value of my personhood. There is freedom in taking the passenger seat and letting life itself determine the path forward.
Farming all these years has been so revealing about how we fit into the big picture. We are a part of something truly magical. Just a part of it. We have been created here to enjoy it, honor it, and protect it. We can communicate with this masterful intelligence simply by opening ourselves up to the idea that it’s listening. We will evolve into our next level of consciousness when we move beyond the concept of “otherness”.
My time in the soil, under the sun and stars, has revealed to me countless times that, we are simply differing expressions of the same complex and expanding consciousness. We are all one.
